OHLA, through its U.S. subsidiary OHLA Building, has received an award from the prestigious publication, ENR Southeast, for the execution of the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans Nursing Home project, located in Florida. The veterans nursing home has been named Best Regional Project in the Government/Public Building category.

The 11,000-square-meter complex has two separate areas that include a 120-bed skilled nursing facility and an area with 60 rooms reserved for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The two areas flank a main building known as the Heroes Center, which houses a main lobby and reception area, administrative offices, physical therapy services, beauty salon and barber shop, cafeteria, chapel, kitchen and dining facilities. The skilled nursing facility is named after local Sergeant Ardie R. Copas, who received the Medal of Honor for service in the Vietnam War.

The project is registered to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold certification, a sustainable building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that guarantees, among other things, that a building is energy efficient and that the selection of materials has followed sustainability and reuse criteria.
