Curicó Hospital receives CES 2022 award for its sustainability criteria
October 17, 2022
The Curicó Hospital (Chile), built and designed by OHLA, has won the CES 2022 award, an initiative of the Sustainable Building Certification Board, in the category of Certified Works or Projects. These awards recognize projects with the best sustainability practices in the public building sector. In the case of the Curicó Hospital, the jury particularly valued aspects such as the reduction in potable water consumption and energy savings.
The project obtained Sustainable Building Certification (CES) at the end of 2021 with an outstanding score of 74.5 thanks to its high degree of energy autonomy and its sustainability and environmental friendliness criteria. In the construction process, OHLA considered energy efficiency parameters such as thermal envelope, ventilated facade, lighting, water savings, landscaping and acoustic insulation. In addition, the certification of the materials used in the project and their traceability were ensured throughout the project.
The Curicó Hospital, a highly complex hospital building with 109,152 m2 distributed over nine floors, two of which are below ground level, is the largest and most modern healthcare facility in the Maule Region and is protected by seismic isolators that protect it in the event of earthquakes.
Nearly 60 projects with sustainable certification
The certification of the Curicó Hospital is another step forward in OHLA’s commitment to sustainable construction processes. The company’s portfolio includes close to 60 unique building contracts developed with sustainability criteria, most of them located in the United States and Europe. In the hospital sector, buildings such as the National Forensic Mental Health Hospital in Portrane (Ireland), with BREEAM Very Good certification, the Olomouc Hospital (Czech Republic), with Passivhaus certification, or the South Miami Hospital (Miami, Florida), which has Gold Leed certification, have been built following outstanding standards of sustainability and respect for the environment.
