Ecolaire España to build hydrogen plant in Mexico for Pemex Refinación

July 15, 2013

Ecolaire España, head of Oil & Gas operations for the Industrial Division of Obrascón Huarte Lain, will lead the consortium awarded by Pemex Refinación with the EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) to build a hydrogen plant and finish a pipeline in the Cadereyta Jiménez Refinery in Nuevo León, Mexico.

Together with Ecolaire España and Obrascón Huarte Lain Industrial, the winning consortium includes hydrogen technology specialists KT Kinetics Technology and the Mexican company Construcciones Industriales Tapia. The joint synergies generated by the partners have enabled the consortium to present the most competitive offer and outperform large groups that opted to bid for this contract.

The project consists in the construction of a 25,000 Nm³/h-capacity hydrogen plant using Haldor Topsoe technology and of the final stage in the 12-inch pipeline connecting the refinery with the Mexican gas grid. The project is scheduled to take 29 months until plant commissioning.

The new hydrogen plant falls within the framework of the DUBA projects for ultra-low sulfur diesel that Pemex has drawn up and initiated to modernize and adapt their refineries to the new Mexican legislation currently in force regarding the amount of sulfur in diesel and gasoline.

This is the first contract that Pemex Refinación has awarded to Ecolaire España in the Oil & Gas sector, strengthening the operations of Obrascón Huarte Lain Industrial both in this sector and in Mexico.
