OHL reinforces its activity in Colombia

March 23, 2015

The OHL Group, through its subsidiary G&O (Agrupación Guinovart Obras y Servicios Hispania), has achieved a contract to execute the first stage of the Parques del Río Medellín project, an initiative launched by the Mayor’s Office to turn Medellín into an environmentally sustainable city and improve its mobility.

The project budget assigned to G&O totals 58.6 million euros, with an 11-month execution term.

The works will be executed along a route 1.2 km. long. The project activities foreseen include burying Autopista Sur along a 426 m. section, increasing the number of existing lanes from four to seven, and constructing two pedestrian crossings over the Medellín River.

The project will enable the development in this area of the largest park in Medellín, and its execution will be a valuable source of employment, generating close to 3,500 direct jobs. In environmental matters, G&O will plant 1,773 trees in the area and another 6,105 in other parts of the city.

During the first half of 2015 a tender will be launched for the second stage of Parques del Río Medellín, located on the opposite river bank to the current stage. This new stage will involve burying works along nearly 1.2 km. with twice the amount of the initial budget.

The contract awarded has reinforced OHL Group’s activity in Colombia. Along with its three partners of the Pacific Alliance -Mexico, Peru and Chile- it is a priority country in OHL Group’s policy of growth in Latin America.

Since 2010, OHL Construcción has been participating in the construction of the 400 MW El Quimbo hydrolectrical plant, the works of which are currently 96% completed. Furthermore, in 2014, construction, assembly and adjustment works began along the Medellín tramway section, in Ayacucho Avenue.

In turn, last 10 December, OHL Concesiones signed its first concession contract in Colombia -Río Magdalena 2 Toll Road- 144 km long, for a 25-year term. The estimated investment totals 837 million euros, of which 458 million have been assigned to the execution of new works.
