OHL supports the education of disadvantaged groups in Peru

March 9, 2018

OHL is promoting a number of initiatives and awareness-raising actions in relation to the economic and social progress of the communities where it operates, in conjunction with organizations such as the Red Cross and the Adecco, Integra and Empieza por Educar foundations.

Specifically, and in line with its commitment to access to education by vulnerable groups, it has renovated the facilities of the Caserío San José Educational Center, located in the province of Cajabamba, one of the most disadvantaged areas of Peru. Since 2016, the company has been performing Phase I of the EPC project for the design, supply, installation and start-up of a crushing and agglomerate plant and a stockpiling system in the Shahuindo mine.

In a joint effort with local subcontractors and suppliers, OHL has contributed to improving the living conditions of a community made up by close to 60 families through the renovation of school facilities with a capacity for more than 100 children that had been declared by Civil Defense as a risk area.

The OHL Group has been present in Peru since 1999 and during this period has been carrying out major infrastructure projects such as the Red Vial 4 Toll Road, one of the country’s main arteries of communication, the rehabilitation and upgrade of sections IV and VII of the Ayacucho-Abancay highway and of the Moquegua-Omate-Arequipa highway, together with the reconstruction of several areas in the country affected by the coastal El Niño.  In addition, the Group has undertaken EPC projects that include the design, construction and start-up of an ore transportation system, as well as the work for the operation and maintenance of equipment in the Sociedad Minera El Brocal plant, or the expansion of the processing and storage units of the gas fractionation plant in Pisco.
