Energy efficiency in buildings

The company’s R&D and Innovation activities forms part of the Company’s strategic positioning in the area of Sustainability. Some of the actions in this sense include its participation in important international R&D consortiums aimed at construction and rehabilitation of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB).

OHL participates, as the only Spanish construction company, in two important projects financed by the European Commission in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

Affordable Zero Energy Buildings (AZEB) begun in June 2017 and slated for completion in the year 2020, made up of eight members, counts on the company as the only Spanish construction company. The project is part of the European Horizon 2020 program (H2020) and is aimed at the large-scale development and extension of an effective methodology for optimizing costs of nearly zero energy buildings or “energy +” buildings – which produce more energy than they consume- throughout their life cycles, from design through maintenance, and with the possibility of being applied in Europe’s different climate zones.

Retrofitting Solutions and Services for the Enhancement of Energy Efficiency in Public Edification (RESSEEPE) is a initiative which began in 2013 with financing from the European Commission through the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) and included participation by 25 partners from ten countries, with the company as the only Spanish construction company. The project, which culminated successfully in 2017, was aimed at energy rehabilitation of buildings for public use through the implementation of innovative technologies, both active and passive, that make it possible to improve energy efficiency.
