E.D.A.R of Lagares. Vigo, Spain

April 29, 2021

The action Saneamiento de Vigo, in which the Lagares WWTP is integrated and in whose construction OHL has participated, has received the Aqueduct of Segovia Award for Public Works and the Environment, awarded by the Fundación Caminos y the College of Civil Engineers, Channels and Ports, in the ninth edition of these awards. This national recognition, granted every four years since its foundation in 1998, highlights the positive impact of the infrastructure, having solved the environmental problems of the environment in which the old treatment plant is located and where it previously operated. in operation since 1997. The new WWTP in Lagares, designed entirely by OHL and GS Inima technicians, is a pioneer in incorporating a thermal hydrolysis system for sludge, which increases the biogas energy recovery performance. In addition, its design makes it the largest plant in Spain for biological treatment with biofiltration technology and one of the largest in Europe. Among its technical characteristics, it should be noted that, for odor treatment, the plant has a biological deodorization system called biotrickling. The plant has also favored the improvement of the microbiological quality of the water from bathroom – with the recovery of the blue flag for Samil Beach and the creation of a reference infrastructure within the sanitation engineering sector. To all this is added a covered structure, which prevents noise and odor pollution while facilitating its integration into the urban nucleus. This recognition joins the award for the best engineering work in the XI San Telmo 2019 Awards, awarded by the College of Civil Engineers, Channels and Ports of Galicia, for its innovative nature; the Galician Architecture and Rehabilitation Award 2018, awarded by the Xunta de Galicia; the Gran de Area 2017 award, awarded by the Official College of Architects of Galicia, and the international WEX Global 2016 Awards in the Water & amp; Energy Awards category, awarded by the English company Water and Energy Exchange.
