+110 years building history

Amongst the many projects carried out by the OHLA Group over more than one hundred years of history are certain emblematic works in terms of size, complexity, technical innovation or social scope. This section gathers a non-exhaustive catalogue of some of these activities.

Eskisehir-Esenkent section, Ankara-Estambul train line (Turkey) and Boqueixon-Santiago section, Ourense-Santiago hub (Spain)

Construction in Turkey of the 206 km section of the Ankara-Estambul high speed train line (Eskisehir-Esenkent section), which includes four viaducts, 22 bridges and a 500 m tunnel and it has been in service since 2009. In Spain, OHL has executed the Boqueixón-Santiago section within the High Speed north-northwest corridor Ourense-Santiago hub, with constructive milestones such as the O’Eixo Viaduct, with a longitude of 1.2 km and a maximum height of 84 m and it has been operative since 2011

Torres Blancas building (Spain) and Sunset Office Center (USA)

The Torres Blancas building, finished in the sixties in Madrid (Spain), is considered the best example of the Spanish organicismo style and a reference all around the world. In 2013, OHLA was awarded the construction of the Sunset Office Center, inspired by some of the most iconic historical architecture buildings in South Florida such as the Biltmore Hotel and Coral Gables City Hall.

General Hospital in Getafe (Spain) and The Lennar Medical Center (USA)

The General Hospital in Getafe, located in the South of Madrid (Spain), has a surface area of more than 78,500 m2 and it was opened to the public in 1991. In 2016, The Lennar Foundation Medical Center was inaugurated. It has a surface area of close to 240,000 m2 and is located at the University of Miami Coral Gables Campus, in Florida (USA).

Cadiz port (Spain) and Marina Bay d’Alger (Algeria)

In 1913, Obrascón began the construction work of dock 1 of the Reina Victoria pier in Cadiz Port (Spain) and it was inaugurated seven years later. In 2016, OHLA first used the Cubipod, a precast element made of mass concrete used as the protection layer of mound breakwaters abroad, in Marina Bay d’Alger Algeria. It had already been successfully used in the outer harbour of Punta Langosteira in A Coruña and in the ports in Malaga and La Esfinge in Gran Canaria.

Newman Alumni Center at the University of Miami and University Campus in Bohunice of Masaryk University

OHLA has a relevant position in singular building, where it has played an outstanding role in the construction of educational infrastructures. In the United States, it has a history of more than thirty years with sites at the University of Miami, Florida International University, Christopher Columbus High School and Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. In Czech Republic, the expansion of the Bohunice University Campus of the Masaryk University in Brno stands out.
