OHL has participated in the first SOQ-JV Environmental Day, an environmental initiative held in Doha (Qatar) on November 29, 2014 and organized by Qatar Railway, the company for which OHL, through SOQ JV (joint venture made up by Samsung, OHL and Qatar Building Company), is performing the construction work for the Doha Metro. The celebration was held with the support of the local Doha government and the Qatar Ministry of Environment.
Around one hundred people participated in the Environmental Day celebration. Divided into two teams to lend the initiative a recreational spirit, participants joined forces in cleaning up the Al Wakra municipal beach, in a symbolic gesture placing the accent on the importance of having the community become involved with the protection of its natural surroundings.
Following the collection of wastes –close to 350 kilos– a ceremony was held to recognize the better of the two teams that participated in the cleanup work, and commemorative gifts were distributed among all of the participants. The day ended with a lunch and a program of games.
At the present time, OHL is participating in the Doha Metro. Major Stations project, through which it has designed and is building the Msheireb and Education City stations, two intermodal transfer stations between several Metro lines and other transportation systems, such as the long-distance railway.
The Msheireb station is located in the historic downtown district of the city of Doha. The Education City station owes its name to the area where it is located, the center of the country’s educational excellence. This station will connect with the long-distance railway and will receive students from the entire area of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
