OHL has sponsored the initiative launched by the Down’s Syndrome Foundation of Madrid in collaboration with the Adecco Foundation, which, for the third consecutive year, has launched a vacation program for its users by walking a stretch of the Camino de Santiago. This project brings together three different aspects: entertainment, sports and cultural programs.

The initiative aims to offer alternative leisure and sports activities adapted for people with disabilities, and attempts to boost their interpersonal skills in order to develop their ability to understand and express themselves and improve their autonomy.

The youth group began their hike on June 30th in Sarria and after nine stages reached Santiago de Compostela on July 9th. In the last stage, from Lavacolla to Santiago de Compostela, OHL Group volunteers accompanied the youths until their arrival at the Cathedral and, throughout the weekend, participated with them and their families in various activities.

The main objective of this activity was to sensitize OHL employees with regard to social integration and employment of this collective, eliminating stereotypes and social barriers, creating opinions and transmitting social values to the volunteers.

Corporate volunteerism is one of the cornerstones of the OHL Group’s Social Action Plan and aims to create an open dialog and cooperation between OHL employees and society, through which OHL volunteers undertake and provide the community with services that apply their unique talents and capabilities while satisfying their own concerns for solidarity and personal growth.

Since its inception in 2005 more than 2,000 employees have participated in volunteer activities organized in Spain and the OHL Group today has active groups of volunteers in Madrid and Barcelona formed of the employees from different OHL Group companies.
