April 23, 2021
OHL has been awarded the construction of a new office building in Madrid, in the Las Tablas neighborhood, located in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district. The project has a proposal budget of 35 million euro and will be executed on a plot of more than 8,700 square meters. The building opts for LEED® Platinum and WELL Platinum sustainable construction certifications, specializing in the health and well-being of people.
The building features, among its main characteristics, a glass enclosure with clear and opaque parts in the slab passage. Its north-south orientation will optimize the energy efficiency and interior lighting of the spaces.
It should be noted that, in the field of construction, OHL has outstanding experience in the construction and rehabilitation of buildings in which it incorporates energy sustainability criteria certified by the most exacting international standards. This includes LEED® certificates (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), granted by the US Green Building Council; BREEAM®, which recognizes the optimization of natural resources and the construction materials used; Passivhaus, which promotes the optimization of the energy generated, and the Sustainable Building Certification (SBC), which allows the inclusion of passive energy saving strategies. In addition, in the field of health and well-being of people, the WELL certification will be sought, considered the first in the world focused exclusively on the health and well-being of people.
The projects carried out by the company include the rehabilitation of the Castellana 81 building (Madrid, Spain) and the Sunset Office Center (Miami, USA), both LEED® Platinum. In addition, the Castellana 81 building is certified as WELL Gold, a Core & Shell typology, becoming the first building in Spain and one of the first five in Europe to achieve this distinction.
Also, Torrespacio, a skyscraper built by OHL in Madrid, in the well-known Cuatro Torres Business Area and which houses the headquarters of OHL in Spain, holds BREEAM® certification for excellent use; and the new building of internal medicine and geriatrics of the Olomouc hospital (Czech Republic) is Passivhaus certified. For its part, the future Curicó Hospital (Chile) opts for SBC certification.
