The OHL Group will renew Manhattan’s electricity & gas lines
April 23, 2021
OHL, through its Judlau subsidiary, has obtained a contract- valued at 86 Million Euros- to renew and replace all electricity and gas lines in Manhattan Island, supplied by Consolidated Edison Company of New York Incorporated (Con Edison).
This contract is directly related to the important project awarded to Judlau last January by the New York Department of Design and Construction, for 182 Million Euros, in order to renew the water distribution network, with the installation of 13,500 meters of new pipes, in four Manhattan neighborhoods.
- Upper West Side, between 59 West and 65 West Streets (area 24B)
- Midtown West, between 48 West and 51 West 25B Streets (area 25B)
- West Village, between 12 West and 13 West Streets (area 27B)
- Little Italy, where work is being executed along Grand Street, between Broadway and Essex Street (area 30B)
In these areas, Con Edison holds electricity and gas lines that are directly or indirectly affected by work along the water distribution network. Judlau, through the contract awarded, has undertaken responsibility for design and construction of the necessary projects to construct, relocate, protect, maintain, modify, adjust and reconstruct all Con Edison services affected.
These four emblematic Manhattan neighborhoods, affected by the works, have huge population and traffic levels. In order to reduce their impact on the community, renovation of the water distribution network is being executed whilst also maintaining pedestrian access to all buildings, entailing the lowest down-time in water and traffic supply and strict noise control.
