OHL received, for the second consecutive year, the “Calculate, reduce and compensate” seal from the Spanish Climate Change Office (OECC)
December 23, 2016
OHL Group has renewed its registration in the carbon footprint, compensation and carbon dioxide absorption projects Registry, promoted by the Spanish Climate Change Office (OECC, by its Spanish acronym), an organism that belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment (known as MAPAMA, in Spanish).
This registration, which was voluntarily requested, reflects the Group’s commitment in relation to energy and climate change, recognized with the “Calculate, reduce and compensate” seal, which validates the carbon footprint calculations according to the methodology and principles established by MAPAMA. It also shows the effectiveness of the company’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gases and an additional effort to compensate emissions through carbon dioxide absorption projects recognized by the Ministry.
OHL is the only construction company and one of the few companies in Spain to be recognized by the full “Calculate, Reduce and Compensate” seal, as established in the Royal Decree 163/2014, of March 14, through which the carbon footprint, compensation and carbon dioxide absorption projects Registry is created. This contributes an important added value for the Group’s clients, which integrate the sustainability of its business model, and is incorporated as complementary information in environmental explanations, or to respond to requirements of the low-carbon economy. It is also worth pointing out that article 10 of Royal Decree 163/2014 mentions the potential consideration of carbon footprint in public procurement.
