The Czech Republic, a reference country for OHL

September 22, 2015

On 22 September, OHL took part in an informative breakfast meeting arranged by Executive Forum and Vozpópuli with the ambassadress of the Czech Republic in Spain, Kateřina Lukešová.

Josep Piqué, CEO and Second Vice Chairman of OHL, introduced the ambassadress and highlighted her academic and professional career. Furthermore, OHL’s CEO referred to the company’s positioning in this country, pointing out that “the Czech Republic is OHL’s fourth market in employment terms, with approximately 2,500 workers, and in terms of sales. It represents our fifth largest portfolio”.

Home markets

The Czech Republic is one of OHL’s home markets, as gathered in its 2015-2020 Strategic Plan, along with Spain, Canada, United States and the Pacific Alliance: Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile. These countries are expected to concentrate 85% of the Group’s turnover by 2020.

OHL has been present in the Czech Republic for more than twelve years, after becoming a majority partner in ŽPSV/ŽS Brno, a company with over 60 years’ experience in the modernization and development of road and railway infrastructures, including the construction of unique buildings. The Group, through its subsidiary OHL ŽS, has started to expand into other markets in Central and Eastern Europe, such as Poland, Slovak Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Azerbaijan.

The main projects developed by OHL in the Czech Republic include the optimization and commissioning of a rail line between the town of Bystrice and Olši, on the border with Slovakia, and the town of Mostu u Jablunka; construction of road I/42 and the Dobrovského tunnel in Brno, and extension of the Bohunice Campus of Masaryk University, also in Brno.
