TCVAL welcomes the first trains for new Lines 6 and 3 in the Santiago Subway
April 7, 2016
Last 6 April, the first two trains of the 37 foreseen for new lines 6 and 3 in the Santiago Subway were downloaded at Terminal Cerros de Valparaíso (TCVAL), Port of Valparaíso. The trains reached TCVAL after a one-month journey from Bilbao, where they were manufactured by CAF.
The trains weigh 170 tons, are nearly three meters wide and are fitted with steel wheels, designed to ensure the utmost level of comfort for the 1,300 travelers transferred in the five cars or carriages included in each train.
Downloading was carried out with a Gottwald crane able to carry 100 tons. Five carriages were located in the Twin Deck and another five in the Lower Holt of the Michelle C. ship. TCVAL port staff completed the process to perfection. Over the next few months, the other trains are expected to arrive, which will be handed over to the Santiago Subway with the excellence shown in this initial operation.
The event was attended by Chile’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Andrés Gómez-Lobo, and the chairman of Metro de Santiago, Rodrigo Azócar, along with the executive manager of CAF Chile, Juan Pablo Schwencke, the general manager of TCVAL, Álvaro Espinosa, and various local and maritime authorities.
