January 11, 2017
Again for the fourth consecutive year, OHL Construcción has presented the Premios Lidera! technological innovation awards, aimed at driving and consolidating its technological leadership in the construction sector. A specialized jury was responsible for selecting the eight winning initiatives from among 40 candidatures originating from the U.S., Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia.
Ignacio Botella, General Manager of OHL Construcción, and Luis García-Linares, the Group’s Corporate General Manager, presented the awards on the 22nd of December at Torrespacio, the OHL Group’s corporate headquarters in Madrid, during a ceremony opened by Alejandro Vizcaíno, OHL Construcción’s Technical Manager. During his opening speech, the OHL executive highlighted the continuous innovation in construction work, the promotion of the use of in-house technology and the significant advances achieved in the direction of the digitalization of OHL Construcción’s key processes.
Miguel Amérigo, Head of the R&D and Innovation Service of OHL Construcción, then described the ongoing improvements undertaken during the year and, most especially, in the exploitation of R&D&I results, which has led to the start-up in 2016 of a new business line for commercially exploiting on an international level the industrial property generated by the company’s own R&D&I activities, beginning with the now classic example of the Cubipod (www.cubipod.com).
The event was closed by Ignacio Botella, General Manager of OHL Construcción, who defined innovation as a “mind-set for facing the future”.
The winning candidatures in the fourth edition of the Premios Lidera! were classified in five categories: best innovation on site, best idea for an R&D&I project, best technological challenge, most innovative area and most innovative supplier.
Initiatives relating to new construction processes for foundations and for railway construction, innovative on-site safety systems and the digitalization of processes on site are featured among the award-winners. Likewise, the Procurement and Machinery Department was considered as the most innovative area in the year for its implementation of methodologies and more than 20 tools developed in-house with significant positive impacts for the company, while the engineering firm Carlos Fernández Casado was recognized as the most innovative collaborator for its invaluable present and past contributions to OHL Construcción projects.
