May 11, 2015
OHL has been distinguished with the 2015 FOPA Prize for the Best Work in the Province of Alicante to execute the Auditorium of the Deputation of Alicante (known by its Spanish acronym, ADDA). The reward, granted by the Federation of Public and Auxiliary Works of the Province of Alicante (FOPA by its Spanish acronym), is part of the XIII Edition of the FOPA Prizes, which distinguishes any bodies or institutions that have promoted the execution of a project, e.g. the executing contractor, with outstanding technical singularity, whether as engineering or architectural works, with economic, urban planning or social value for the entire province or for the city or area of location, or due to its size and constructive complexity.
The award event, held on 28 April in ADDA, was presided by Alberto Fabra, president of the Regional Government of Valencia, who handed over the prize to Rafael Martín de Nicolás, chairman-general manager of OHL Construcción, Spain.
According to the jury, the ADDA “is a huge architectural project that has become a social and cultural reference in the province of Alicante, totally incorporated as part of the city”. The building has a constructed surface area of 28,000 m2 and it is structured into three modules, one assigned for administration and services, and two main modules for cultural activities.
The OHL Group is a reference in the construction of unique buildings, including Torre Espacio, OHL Group headquarters, in Madrid (Spain); the Oran Conventions Center in Algeria; the Robert and Judi Prokop Newman Alumni Center, in Miami (USA); and the Mayakoba tourist complex, in Riviera Maya (Mexico).
