Inauguration of a 14 km stretch pertaining to one of Australia’s most important highways

OHL has completed one of its most important contracts in Australia. On September 18^th, the Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull and the Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight of the State of New South Wales, Melinda Pavey, inaugurated the 14 km stretch between the cities Kundabung and Kempsey, pertaining to one of Australia’s most important highways, the Pacific Highway.  

The project, awarded by the Department of Roads and Maritime Services of New South Wales, had a budget of 190 million euro and was executed by the joint venture formed by OHL (50%) and the local company, McConnell Dowell (50%).

The award is jointly funded by New South Wales and the Australian Government and is part of the investment plan launched by the Australian authorities to improve the capacity and traffic safety of the Pacific Highway connecting the cities of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, and Brisbane, in the state of Queensland.

The project involved duplicating the Pacific Highway by constructing two two-lane roadways, with a total length of 14 km and including six kilometers of local roads, plus five bridges, one overpass and the modification of another three existing viaducts.

This project is in addition to another award that OHL has developed on the Pacific Highway. In February 2015, OHL was awarded the construction of a 14.7 km stretch between the cities of Woolgoolga and Halfway Creek, in New South Wales. The contract was awarded by the Department of Roads and Maritime Services of New South Wales to OHL in a 50% joint venture with local construction company York Civil for a budget of 160 million euro.

Presence since 2011

OHL entered the Australian market in 2011 by rebuilding a section of the Peak Downs highway in the State of Queensland for 58 million euro.  In 2014, OHL undertook the improvement of the first phase of Schofields Road in New South Wales, with a budget of 44 million euro. And subsequently, the group has participated in the reconstruction of the Seventh Avenue bridge in Perth, measuring 83.5 meters in length, with a budget of 7.2 million euro. 

OHL is currently executing the second phase of Schofields Road, with a budget of 55 million euro, in a 50% joint venture with the local company York Civil. The site consists of duplicating four kilometers of the existing Schofields Road, including viaducts and pedestrian crossings, among others.
