OHL Concessions inaugurates the Smartsit R&D Project
March 13, 2014
Within the framework of its commitment to applying new technologies for improving concession management and operation, OHL Concessions has initiated Smartsit, the new R&D project conceived to characterize traffic and improve mobility through the use of magnetoresistive sensors for intelligent transportation systems.
The project was ushered in following a successful evaluation process by the Spanish Center for Industrial Technological Development and a project development funding agreement that OHL Concessions entered into with this Spanish public entity.
Smartsit is scheduled to last two years and will streamline technological cooperation between Spain and Mexico through its constituents of partnering Spanish and Mexican companies and universities, including the OHL Group’s own Opcom (Operadora Concesionaria Mexiquense).
Smartsit continues the research of the Oasis R&D project concerning the magnetic footprints of vehicles. The project essential aims to develop a sensor solution based on the magnetic characteristics of vehicles that could replace or enhance traditional traffic detection systems. This innovation will provide better and more effective services while cutting the costs and maintenance needs of current solutions, particularly in free-flow conditions of traffic circulation.
