SATO awarded the García-Cabrerizo Prize for its Cubipodo invention

December 5, 2011

The García-Cabrerizo Foundation has awarded Sociedad Anónima Trabajos y Obras (SATO) the García-Cabrerizo Prize in recognition of its merits as the inventor of “Cubipodo: an armored unit for concrete breakwaters” presented at the Salon International des Inventions de Gèneve (International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, Switzerland) held April 6-10, 2011. The award was granted upon proposal from the international jury of the event. The OHL Group subsidiary, a leader in the construction of all types of port infrastructure, received two international awards in the event: the gold medal with honors for the Cubípodo and the silver medal for the SATOGrab clamp. The Exhibition is considered the largest of its kind in the world.

SATO chairman Pedro Rodriguez Inciarte received the award from Pedro García-Cabrerizo, sponsor and vice-president of the García-Cabrerizo foundation, as part of the annual award ceremony through which this institution has supported the continuous promotion of inventions and research and innovation in Spain over the past 30-plus years.

Patented by the Polytechnic University of Valencia and licensed by SATO, cubípodo, a project funded by the CDTI, is a new element for the construction of breakwaters and port defense works. The cubípodo is designed to maintain the advantages of traditional cubic block, such as strength and ease of installation, while correcting the disadvantages, such as avoiding the need for paving. It is also easy to produce, store and install and represents a cost savings in materials.
