July 7, 2017
OHL, in a 50% joint venture with Dragados, has been awarded the construction of the new Alcañiz Hospital (Teruel) worth 57.5 million euros. The project has been awarded by Servicio Aragonés de Salud, the institution in charge of the Health Service in Aragón, Spain. This is a luis vidal + arquitectos signed project.
The new Alcañiz Hospital will be four times larger than the present facility and will have a surface area of 61,175 m2. The building will accommodate the outpatient, hospitalization and emergency areas, comprising an underground air space, four floors above ground and rooftop installations.
From an energy efficiency point of view, the hospital will have 24 flat-plate solar collectors on the roof of the service building and will be equipped with LED lighting technology and car charging points.
Outstanding experience in the hospital sector
OHL has outstanding experience in the building of hospital infrastructures, an area in which it has performed more than 150 new construction projects involving a total built-up area of more than 6,000,000 m2 and a capacity for more than 60,000 beds in a range of countries, such as Spain, Portugal, Panama, Iraq, Costa Rica, North America, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela or Chile.
The company has recently been awarded the construction of the new Curicó Hospital (Chile), which will replace the facility destroyed by the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010; and a forensic hospital center for mentally ill patients in Portrane, north of Dublin (Ireland), a project that has signified OHL’s entry into the Irish market.
