Metro Ligero Oeste achieves third place in the III Tram Drivers European Championship
November 25, 2014
The III Tram Drivers European Championship took place last November 22. Metro Ligero Oeste (MLO) was awarded the third place in this international competition after overcoming a series of tests based on skills, precision and safety.
The MLO team that travelled to Barcelona was formed by four drivers and two tram line responsible. Two of these drivers were in charge of performing several tests and remained the fastest of the competition in each of the modalities. The contest is intended to promote cultural exchanges, information and knowledge among the operators of the participating countries.
The competition included tests based on the ability to conform to a preset speed without any references, measure the accuracy on the brake by reaching a complete stop at a specific point, reverse driving, lateral distances calculation and gauge control. The Bowling Test, one of the most remarkable tests, entailed hitting a rubber ball in order to knock down five bowls located on the platform.
A total of 17 teams from Germany, France, Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Sweden and Spain, among other countries, participated both in the competition and training courses as well as a Barcelona City guided tour.
Sunday 23, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of TRAM de Barcelona -host company for the event- took place the official competition and the delivery of trophies to winners:
Parla tram (1st), Rotterdam tram (2nd) and MLO (3rd).
