OHL will construct a hospital in Ireland for more than 120 million euros
April 27, 2017
The OHL Group will be constructing the National Forensic Mental Health Hospital (NFMHS) in Portrane, north of Dublin (Ireland), for more than 120 million euros. The project has been awarded by Health Service Executive to the Joint Venture formed by OHL (50%) and JJ Rhatigan (50%), an Irish company specializing in unique buildings. With this contract, OHL will be able to enter the Irish market.
The project foresees the construction of a forensic mental health hospital, as part of St. Ita’s Hospital complex. It will cover a surface area of 24,000 m2, not including the energy, maintenance and gardening buildings.
The new hospital will accommodate 170 rooms, distributed as follows: National Forensic Hospital: 120 beds; Mental Health Unit for Children and Adolescents: 10 beds; Intellectual Disability and Mental Health Unit: 10 beds; and the Intensive Care Rehabilitation Unit: 30 beds.
The NFMHS has been designed to provide differentiated high and medium security services, and includes a series of shared facilities. It will have 13 hospital rooms, a primary healthcare and therapy center and an administrative complex. The room layout will be surrounded by a safety perimeter 5.2 meters high, or other equivalent structure.
Ireland is not a new market for the company. Nine years ago, OHL belonged to the best positioned consortium to be awarded a public-private venture to construct the North Dublin Underground, which was halted during the 2008 crisis. At present, given the company’s economic recovery and its good prospects for growth and the need for public investments in Ireland, OHL is examining various infrastructure projects in the country.
