Tomás García Madrid presents the OHL Group Environment Awards

The OHL Group celebrated the II edition of the Environment Awards. The event took place in Torre Espacio, the Group’s head office in Madrid, with the participation of Tomás García Madrid, deputy vice-president and managing director of the Group; Luis García-Linares, Corporate general director; Ignacio Botella, general director of the Construction division; José Zurrón, director of hiring and technical services; Alejandro Vizcaíno, technical director; and Manuel Villén, director of Innovation and Sustainability, among others.
During his speech, Tomás García Madrid, who presided over the ceremony and presented the awards, highlighted the OHL Group’s commitment to the environment, present in all areas of the company and being “essential to our sustainability as a company and as a business”. During his own address, Luis García Linares underlined the fact that, in the past three consecutive years, OHL has become a leader of the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index due to its commitment towards the communication and management of climate change.
OHL Group Environment Award
The OHL Group Environment Award 2015 was presented to the RESSEEPE project (Retrofitting Solutions and Services for the enhancement of Energy Efficiency in Public Edification), an R&D&I initiative included in the 7th EU Framework Program for the development of energy efficiency strategies and solutions applicable to rehabilitation and reform phases of public buildings. The award has been presented to Marta García and Patricia Pérez from the Technical Direction of the Construction division in Spain.
Three runner-up prizes have also been awarded, the first of which recognizes the development of strategies for savings and efficient use of water implemented in the Parques del Río Medellín project in Colombia. The awardees in this category were Javier Seara and Jorge Orostegui from OHL Colombia.
The second runner-up prize recognizes the Habitat for Humanity project, geared around the reutilization of waste and surplus stocks of the 407 Station Work construction project for the development of a social project for home improvements in disadvantaged collectives. This prize was presented to Stephen McCoy of OHL Construction Canada.
Finally, the third runner-up prize was awarded to the Wildlife Removal Program project, a program aimed at the capture and relocation of invasive wildlife. Thanks to this initiative, 21 raccoons have been relocated outside of the construction site. The awardees in this category were Manuel Fernández and Seamus Boers from OHL Construction Canada.
