December 7, 2012
OHL’s strong commitment to a low carbon economy has led the Group to occupy a prominent position in this field. According to the classification developed by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an independent nonprofit organization that analyzes climate change information on approximately 6,000 of the world’s largest companies, OHL has scored a “High” rating and is included within Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, and is positioned in the overall standings, which encompasses a universe of 125 Spanish and Portuguese companies, as the fourth ranked construction firm. Moreover, OHL has experienced significant growth in the Carbon Disclosure ranking of over 10 points and has moved up in the Carbon Performance category from level C to level B.
For OHL, the fight against climate change is a priority. This is amply evidenced by the fact that sustainable environmental management is one of its main objectives in the Group’s Environment and Energy Master Plan. Specifically, the Group focuses on ensuring compliance with the environmental sustainability commitments of the Group by improving environmental performance, particularly in the areas of low-carbon economy and ecosystem conservation.
The main objective for OHL is to develop a strategy to create value with a minimum impact of their activities on the atmosphere. This commitment applies to all business lines and in all workplaces, both in Spain and abroad.
In order to advance towards a low carbon economy, one of the long-term strategic lines of the OHL Group is to promote the development of better technologies to support projects which are conducive to the improvement of energy efficiency, promote clean energy use and minimize emissions of greenhouse gases across the Group’s main activities. While the medium- and short-term strategic line is to enhance awareness and good practices aimed at reducing global warming and the support of and participation in related initiatives.
