February 12, 2013
OHL have been awarded the Medellín street railway contract in Colombia for civil works construction of the avenida de Ayacucho streetcar system, as part of the Corredor Verde project.
With an amount of 70.3 million euros, this new contract reinforces OHL activity in Colombia, where is it currently participating in the construction of the hydroelectric complex, El Quimbo. This project, a joint venture with the Italian Impregilo, has a budget of 283 million euros and was awarded by Emgesa, the Colombian affiliate of Endesa.
The recently awarded Medellín street railway project covers construction of the infrastructure and superstructure of the tracks, as well as storage yards and workshops for the streetcars. The contract also includes adaptation of town planning and the public spaces within the scope of the project.
The streetcar line created by OHL will be 4.3 km long, with double tracks, six stops and three transfer stations; San Antonio, Miraflores and Alejandro Echevarría.
The streetcars, which are not included in the proposal, will be pneumatic vehicles with a central guide rail, according to the Translhor system.
