Josep Piqué Camps at the helm as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the OHL Group

Today the Board of Directors at OHL has agreed to appoint Josep Piqué Camps as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the OHL Group, offices in which Mr. Piqué has now assumed. Mr. Piqué’s previously sat on the Board of Directors for the Villar Mir Group, one of Spain’s leading private industrial groups comprising OHL, Fertiberia, Ferroatlántica, VM Energía and Inmobiliaria Espacio.

Born in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) in 1955, Josep Piqué earned his degree and doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences, meriting an Exceptional Award and Suma Cum Laude, respectively, and holds a Law degree from the University of Barcelona.

As a tenured lecturer in Economic Theory at the University of Barcelona since 1984, Josep Piqué has chaired the organization Círculo de Economía in two periods, 1995-1996 and 2011-2013, during which he steered to strengthen and consolidate the influence of this prestigious Catalan institution and drive international business expansion.

Josep Piqué’s political career spanned roles in the Catalan regional government and the Spanish government, the latter in which he headed various ministries between 1996 and 2003 as Minister of Industry and Energy (1996-2000), office that he shared with Government Spokesman (1998-2000), Minister of Foreign Affairs (2000-2002) and Minister of Science and Technology (2002-2003). Mr. Piqué remained politically engaged until 2007 while serving as chairman of the party Partido Popular de Catalunya as national and regional congressman and senator.

Particularly prominent among his business activities are his duties serving as executive chairman of the Ercros Group, an office which he held between 1992 and 1996, and chairman of Vueling Airlines (2007-2013). Since February 2012, Mr. Piqué has also been representing Spain in the Board of Directors of the European Aeronautics Group EADS.

Josep Piqué joins the OHL Group to continue his broad experience as an economist, businessman and politician, in which he undertook duties of maximum responsibility in prestigious institutions, large companies and even the Government of Spain. Mr. Piqué’s brings his vast accumulated experience, particularly international and within the field of R&D+i, to the OHL Group, in which internationalization, with operations in 28 countries on five continents, and R&D+i are the pivotal axes of strategic management.
