OHL enters two new States in the US: Illinois and Connecticut

The OHL Group has broadened its presence in the US in two new states: Illinois and Connecticut, where its New York subsidiary Judlau Contracting has been awarded two construction contracts for a total budget of 93.5 million euros. Until now, OHL’s construction activity in the US was being carried out in Florida, New York, Texas, California, Maryland and Washington DC. In turn, the OHL Industrial division has constructed a 20 MW photovoltaic plant in Tucson (Arizona) and is currently in charge of its operation and maintenance.

Interchange station in Chicago, Illinois

Works in the State of Illinois, totaling 49.2 million euros (64 million USD), have been awarded by the public agency Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (Illinois Tollway), involving the construction, in Chicago, of an interchange station to connect I-290 and Illinois Route 39, as part of the Elgin O’Hare Western Access (EOWA) project.

The contract is covered by the state program Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future, started up in 2012, which has estimated a 12,000 million USD investment over 15 years in transport infrastructure. In addition to creating more than 13,000 jobs until now, reconstruction of the existing toll infrastructure is also notably improving the regional transport network in the State of Illinois.

Railway project in Connecticut

The contract achieved in Connecticut has a budget of 44.3 million euros (58.9 Million USD) and has been awarded by the state’s Department of Transport.

The project is part of the rehabilitation of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield railway corridor, to refurbish and extend the stations in the cities of Berlin, Meriden and Wallingford.

The Berlin station is one of the corridor’s oldest. Considered historic heritage, it was constructed in the year 1900 and has been operating since then. It will be restored whilst keeping the original design and materials.

OHL in the US

OHL Group’s entry into the states of Illinois and Connecticut has taken place eight years after it began its construction activity in the US in 2006, becoming a strategic partner of Community Asphalt and Tower Group (currently OHL Building) in Florida. Subsequently, in the same state, these were joined by Arellano Construction, Stride Contractors and BCA.

In 2010, OHL entered New York by acquiring a controlling stake in the local construction company Judlau Contracting.

Three years later, in 2013, it entered the states of Texas and California through the direct award of construction contracts to OHL USA, and in Maryland and Washington DC through Judlau Contracting.
