The OHL Group adheres to the Spanish Companies and Biodiversity Initiative and signs a Biodiversity Covenant
July 24, 2015
The OHL Group has adhered to the Spanish Companies and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB) and has signed the Biodiversity Covenant, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (Magrama, by its Spanish acronym) in order to create a common space where companies belonging to various business sectors are able to exchange their experience, in order to integrate “the conservation and management of biodiversity as part of their business strategy” and to encourage “the location of opportunities and alternative innovating projects”.
By signing the Biodiversity Covenant, the OHL Group recognizes the three objectives gathered in the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of the components of biological diversity, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources.
This adhesion reinforces OHL Group’s Environmental Commitment, articulated around principles based on the prevention of pollution and the reduction of environmental impact when developing projects and contracts, moving towards a low-carbon economy and protecting biodiversity and natural resources. In addition to these actions, guidelines are foreseen in OHL’s Environmental Sustainability Commitment, aimed at protecting, conserving and protecting the environment and natural assets, to include a preventive approach to waste management, the planning and execution of ecological conservation and restoration, and the optimized use of material and energy resources.
According to the IEEB, the OHL Group will establish a series of joint actions with the Biodiversity Foundation, dependent on Magrama, to include the incorporation into its national and international tenders of “differentiating components that encourage the visibility of its commitment to improving and conserving natural assets”.
IEEB is backed up by entities such as Forética, to which OHL belongs; Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad, Biodiversity In Good Company and the Global Nature Foundation. It has been adhered to by 21 top-rank companies, including the OHL Group.
