November 9, 2018
OHL incorporates criteria of sustainability and energy efficiency into its singular building projects. This commitment translates into attaining the prestigious international standard, LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, organization which promotes sustainability in the design and construction of buildings.
Altogether, the company accumulates experience in 27 singular building projects with LEED® certification, distributed between the USA and Spain: two Platinum LEED®, 13 Gold LEED®, nine Silver LEED® and three LEED® Certificates. To these we add another 21 projects, in the construction phase, which aspire to obtain said certification in various categories.
In the USA, OHL has an extensive portfolio of projects that include such diverse areas as hospital, educational, commercial or administrative, in which measures aligned with the practice of sustainability have been incorporated. Outstanding is the Sunset Office Center- 1515, in Miami, Platinum LEED® Certificate. Also, the Robert & Judy Prokop Newman Alumni Center, the South Miami Hospital Clinical Expansion and the Uhealth Ambulatory Care Facility, FDVA State Nursing Home for Veterans; CLIS and the Basketball Practice Facility, all of them with Gold LEED® Certificates.
In Spain, worth mention is the Castellana 81 office building where OHL has recently carried out restoration work and has obtained the Platinum LEED®; and the interior reformation projects at the headquarters of COFIDES and ICEX, the remodeling of the facade of the 10 Elloy Gonzalez Street building and the demolition work carried out at the 112 Principe de Vergara street building, all of which are in Madrid and have Gold LEED® certificates.
In addition, OHL has 21 projects, in the construction phase, in the process of obtaining the LEED® certification -one Platinum, thirteen Gold, six Silver and one LEED® Certificate. Examples of these are, in Madrid, the office building in Las Tablas which is up for a Platinum LEED®; and Centro Canalejas Madrid and Caleido, both for a Gold LEED® Oro. In Florida, USA, outstanding is the Pompano Beach Library (Gold LEED®) and the East Ridge Retirement Village (Silver LEED®).
In order to obtain the LEED® Certificate, the U.S. Green Building Council very positively values the solutions in sustainable mobility, the proximity of means of public transportation, the installation of bicycle parking and the reservation of parking spaces for low emission vehicles and carpool vehicles. Likewise, it recognizes the important reduction in the consumption of drinking water (42%) and energy (13,50%) with respect to similar buildings, and the improvement of the interior air quality thanks to the use of substances and products with low emissions which are a health hazard. It also takes into account the use of local (20%) and recycled (10%) materials.
