OHLA boosts its portfolio in Europe with a new project for the Swedish Transport Agency (Trafikverket). The company has been awarded a new railway project worth 160 million euros in Sweden. Specifically, it will carry out improvements on the Ostlänken railway line in Gerstaberg, 80 km south of Stockholm, and will begin work on the new high-speed railway line that will connect this city with Norrköping. This infrastructure will connect to the existing main line through an approximately 800-meter railway track branch.

The contract also includes several overpasses and approximately 2.3 kilometers of double track with infrastructure and superstructure work as well as electrification, signaling, and telecommunications.

Main Contractor for the Stockholm Metro

In 2017, the company signed its first contract with the Swedish Transport Agency (Trafikverket) and made the leap into the the Swedish market. Specifically, it was awarded, in consortium, the project to improve the railway line between Lund and Arlöv (Malmö) for 295 million This is the main communication route between the Scandinavian peninsula and the rest of the European continent. Additionally, Lund and Arlöv is considered the largest railway digitization project in Europe.

In the Stockholm Metro, specifically on the Blue Line, OHLA has been awarded four contracts for a total amount of close to 330 million euros, making it the largest contractor for this infrastructure.

Recent Awards in Norway

The company also has a significant presence in Norway, where it has been carrying out infrastructure projects since 2015 when it was awarded the EPC SKI. With an award budget of 290 million, this railway initiative is part of the Follo Line, Norway’s most important transportation project.

This contract adds to the one announced by the company last May. Thus, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) awarded OHLA the design and construction of the Gjønnes tunnel for 156 million euros. The contract involves the construction of an approximately 100-meter concrete tunnel and a 1,400-meter rock tunnel. The infrastructure, which is technically very challenging, will have two lanes and a T9.5 cross-section. In addition to the tunnel, a new intersection area will be created in Gjønnes with a connection to Bærumsveien.
