Ciudad Mayakoba participated in the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), which took place in Quito (Ecuador) from the 17th to the 20th of October. This conference is the most important event organized by the United Nations in the context of urban development, and its objective is to ensure the global political commitment to sustainable urban development and to identify new urban challenges for the establishment and generation of a new Urban Agenda for the 21st century.
Alfonso Hernández, manager of the Ciudad Mayakoba project, participated in this event and stated that this initiative was selected by the UN for attendance at this international conference because it is “a project that shows that partnering by companies in combination with the municipal government and the UN can consolidate programs to the benefit of cities”.
Ciudad Mayakoba is an innovative model of sustainable integrated urban development, performed by OHL Desarrollos in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in an area of 409 hectares.
