Adif Alta Velocidad has awarded to the OHL Group, for 68.7 million euros, construction of the Atxondo-Abadiño section, as part of the Vitoria/Gasteiz-Bilbao route of the high-speed line known as the “Basque Y”.
The section covers a main two-lane trunk road, 5,660.77 m long, and two single-lane branch roads, Ramal Norte and Ramal Sur, 914.51 m and 941.98 m long, respectively, running through the towns of Elorrio, Atxondo and Abadiño (Vizcaya).
The works have been awarded to the Joint Venture consisting of OHL (50%) and its subsidiaries Agrupación Guinovart Obras y Servicios Hispania (G&O, 25%) and Construcciones Adolfo Sobrino (25%).
The section’s outstanding components include six two-lane viaducts: Lanebera, 283.5 m long, Solatxo (153 m), Bolinbiskar (231 m), Urasalto (337 m), Sagasta (453 m) and Arrazola, 1,755 m long. The project includes all the necessary steps to construct the platform until reaching the sub-ballast layer, such as the moving of earth, drainage works, structures and replacement of services and affected easements, as well as any transversal connections providing line permeability.
