HRH the Prince of Asturias receives the civil engineers of Madrid

HRH the Prince of Asturias on 6 June received to the General Council of the Official College of Civil Engineers of Madrid (Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos), which represents Spain’s 9,100 civil engineers.
The Dean of the institution, Miguel Angel Carrillo Suarez thanked His Royal Highness for his “support and the sensitivity demonstrated for civil engineers in Madrid by chairing the Honor Committee of the Engineering Week” organized last March by the College and in which OHL collaborated with various papers and participated as a sponsor.
Mr. Carrillo Suárez noted that “the support of His Royal Highness has been instrumental in the success of Engineering Week, an initiative supported by the government and more than 80 institutions and in which more than 5,000 people visited the infrastructure and exhibits.
On behalf of the 9,100 engineers who are members of the College, the Dean, during the audience, stressed the public service role of their profession and the relevance of Spanish engineers in large-scale works on every continent, including the expansion of the Panama Canal, the New York subway and the St. Gotthard tunnel in the Swiss Alps, linking Zürich and Milan.
The Prince of Asturias was very interested in the projects promoted by the Official College of Civil Engineers of Madrid. In addition, the Members of the institution’s General Council spoke with the Prince of Asturias about the situation in the industry and the current economic climate.
The Dean highlighted the “firm commitment” of Madrid’s civil engineers to continue working on the development of the Community of Madrid and Spain, “providing solutions and ideas to serve society, which is the essence of our profession.”
The Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Madrid, the official Spanish name, is an institution created in 1979 and has a membership of 9,100 engineers.
