Josep Piqué: “CSR is part of a company’s competitiveness requirements”
June 15, 2016
Josep Piqué, CEO and Vice Chairman of OHL, has participated in the VII edition of Business Intelligence Platform, arranged by Bolsamanía, a financial data portal. The initiative, held in Madrid last 8 June under the title “Challenges facing Spain’s infrastructure companies”, gathered executives of Spain’s leading construction companies and the chairman of Seopan, in order to discuss the important role played by this sector in economic development and globalization.
During his speech, OHL’s Vice Chairman pointed out that CSR is part of a company’s competitiveness requirements and referred to the need to include it in an enterprise’s business model as it reflects “our required contribution to society overall”. He added that “society should not only view us as an effective company but also as an entity generating greater wellbeing”.
Talent
Josep Piqué, who praised the outstanding quality of Spanish business schools and polytechnic universities, highlighted that a company’s future “should be based on talent”.
Specifically in relation to infrastructures, he pointed out that Spain has made an effort to exploit infrastructures, thanks to which sector companies “have been able to take a leap abroad”, adding that “we should evaluate our ports’ capacity” as the future of international trade “is becoming more and more dependent on maritime channels”.
