Juan Miguel Villar Mir is awarded the Civil Engineering Excellence Prize of the World Council of Civil Engineers

Juan Miguel Villar Mir has received in Monterrey (Mexico), from the hands of the president of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE), Emilio Colón, the Civil Engineering Excellence Prize of the World Council of Civil Engineers, in recognition of “his long and fruitful professional career, of which his perseverance, dedication to work, efficiency and enterprising qualities may be highlighted. This has allowed him to hold a very relevant position in various fields”.

The laudatio of the winner was entrusted to José Medem Sanjuan, founding president of the World Council of Civil Engineers. In the award event, Emilio Colón pointed out the winner’s “brilliant professional career and his drive for self-achievement throughout the years”. Furthermore, Emilio Colón noted that “he is a clear example of how perseverance, rigueur and constant innovation are able to prevail over any difficulties and adversities”.

The president of the World Council of Civil Engineers thanked Juan-Miguel Villar Mir for “his contribution to the world of innovation, his significant legacy in entrepreneurial initiatives in the infrastructures field and the outstanding progress made in R&D&I”. Mr. Colón concluded his speech by referring to the “position that Juan-Miguel Villar Mir has built for himself over these years in Spain’s political history, economics and engineering, through excellence and effort”.

The first edition of the Civil Engineering Excellence Prize of the World Council of Civil Engineering was held in 2010 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the 5th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers. Since then, the award is granted very two years, in order to present to the world any contributions made in the field of civil engineering, at a theoretical, practical or public level. The winner is chosen according to his contributions to civil engineering practice, theory or reputation. All candidates should have long-term experience in their professional activity, international prestige and relevant academic contributions.
