OHLA promotes the recovery of natural areas and the fight against climate change

OHLA is launching the initiative The OHLA Forest in order to contribute to the recovery of natural spaces and the protection of the environment and, at the same time, encourage the CO2 absorption.
OHLA is launching the initiative The OHLA Forest in order to contribute to the recovery of natural spaces and the protection of the environment and, at the same time, encourage the CO2 absorption. This project is in addition to other climate change mitigation activities carried out by the company, and it will be registered in the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), which will allow the company to offset part of its annual CO2 emissions, reducing the environmental impact of its activity.
The OHLA Forest is made up of 1,300 trees of native forest species such as holm oaks, pines, cherry trees and blackthorn, which will be used to recover two hectares affected by a forest fire in Ejulve, Teruel (eastern Spain), in 2009. Through this initiative, the company will cover the three axes of OHLA’s sustainability: sustainable business, through the offsetting of CO2 emissions that the forest will allow; responsible management and social progress, through the development of the rural environment through the promotion of local employment and the integration of people in vulnerable situations.
The initiative, promoted in collaboration with Sylvestris, a company dedicated to CO2 compensation projects and the construction of green cities, is a new example of the company’s commitment to sustainability, one of the pillars on which its business model is based, through the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructures; and a work methodology in favor of decarbonization, the practice of a circular economy, the use of green energies and the use of construction materials with a low environmental impact.
