OHL achieves new construction contracts in Peru and Colombia for 51.6 million euros
July 15, 2015
The OHL Group has achieved two new construction contracts in Peru and Colombia, for a total budget of 51.6 million euros and entailing a notable economic and social impact on the local communities within their areas of influence.
The contract in Peru, for 30.6 million euros, has been awarded to OHL (70 %) and its Peruvian subsidiary Constructora TP SAC (30 %). It involves renovating and improving a 20.4 km along the Andahuaylas-Huancabamba section of the Andahuaylas-Pampachiri-Negromayo road. The aim is to link Andahuaylas and Huancabamba to the local airport, achieving a highly valuable intermodal connection for the region and shortening the traveling time by 30 % between these cities and the airport.
The project will create approximately 1,000 direct jobs during the works execution period (1 year) and 2,000 indirect jobs. Unqualified staff will belong to the communities of the area of influence, consequently contributing to local economic development. The new road will also entail substantial improvements for the agricultural sector, as it will provide mobility to farmers in relation to products, machinery and equipment, rapidly and safely.
In addition to asphalt surfacing of the section, the project includes the construction of retaining walls along the slopes; to hold the road itself, longitudinal and transversal drainage structures will be executed along 20.4 km, as well as signaling, road safety components and environmental protection works. The current Poshcota Bridge, over the Chumbao River, will be replaced with another one 25 m wide and walls approximately 1,000 m long will be built on either side of the river as bank protection.
The worksite is located south of the Peruvian Andes, with a maximum height above sea level of 3,700 m. This is the third road awarded by the Peruvian Transport and Communications Ministry in the Peruvian Andes over the last five years. The other two sections have already been executed at the client’s entire satisfaction and this award confirms the trust it has placed in OHL.
21-million contract in Colombia
In turn, the contract in Colombia, awarded to the G&O subsidiary for 21 million euros, is one of the most important projects to begin in Itagüí in 2015. The aim of the project is to develop on the side banks of Quebrada Doña María a section with two road surfaces, one lane exclusively assigned to Metroplus (the public passenger transportation system), two lanes for combined traffic and a public space with tiled floors, green areas, urban fixtures and two reconstructed bridges, one for vehicles and the other for pedestrian use.
Construction of this new road corridor, 1.7 km long, will relieve the central roads of Medellín, providing a system for mass citizen transport. Amongst other actions, the project involves the construction of a vehicle bridge 18 m long and 14 m wide, after demolishing the former one, and another pedestrian bridge 12 m long and 3.5 m wide, as well as retaining walls for the ravine.
Furthermore, the neighborhoods surrounding the ravine will be renovated, with a linear park covering 7,300 m² and new public service networks (energy, public lighting, voice and data, telecommunications, aqueduct and sewage and gas).
This is the second project launched by the G&O (Agrupación Guinovart Obras y Servicios Hispania) subsidiary in Colombia. In early 2015, the first stage of the Medellín River Parks project was awarded, for 58.6 million euros, an initiative launched by the City Council to turn Medellín into an environmentally sustainable city with better mobility.
