OHL attends an event with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon
October 30, 2015
Josep Piqué, CEO of OHL, along with representatives of Spain’s private sector, has attended an event held with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, on 29 October in Madrid. This work meeting was arranged to bring the private sector closer to the United Nations Development Program, with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), approved last September, and to encourage their development.
At the work meeting, arranged by the Spanish Network for the United Nations Global Compact, the Secretary General of the United Nations has highlighted the essential role played by the private sector. “All over the world it is evident that the business community is more proactive than ever: companies are becoming more and more aware that a safer and more sustainable world results in more solid enterprises and more prosperous markets”. In his speech before thirty business leaders, Ban Ki-moon also pointed out two very current issues: environmental conservation and the refugee crisis.
OHL and its support of the Global Compact
Since 2003, the Group is publicly and voluntarily committed to sustainable development, which has materialized through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a tool to consolidate and increase this value-creation capacity.
OHL Group’s commitment to the creation of economic, ethical, social and environmental value wherever it is present was ratified institutionally in 2004 with its adhesion to the United Nations Global Compact. In November 2014, as part of its X anniversary celebrations, the Spanish Network for the Global Compact acknowledged OHL for its membership as a founding member.
The OHL Group has incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals into its CSR strategy and, starting in 2016, will announce the results obtained in their achievement.
