The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Peru, through the Provías Nacional (the Special National Transportation Infrastructure Project), has awarded the OHL Group the contract to renovate and upgrade section VII, 76.5 km in length, of the Ayacucho-Abancay road for 108.14 million Euros.

This road is part of National Route 3S, or the Longitudinal Mountain Highway, and the section awarded joins the Kishuara District in the province of Andahuaylas, with Abancay, capital of the department of Apurimac.

The work will be executed by the Kishuara III consortium, led by the OHL Group, with a direct shareholding of 43%, together with its Peruvian subsidiary Constructora TP, with a 20% shareholding. The Construction company Málaga Hnos. completes the consortium with a 37% shareholding.

The section awarded, and therefore the works to be performed, starts from an altitude of 3,752 m above sea level and ends at an elevation of 1,791 m, with a gradient of 1,961 m. The territory’s terrain is rugged, with areas of great complexity in which the expected inclines can exceed 50 m in height.

The width of the road in the project is 6 m, with a roadside of 0.90 m on each side. Numerous cross drainage works are provided for to bridge the different streams crossing the route, as well as several concrete and gabion retaining walls or breakwaters to improve the stability of the inclines in the most complex areas.

The project also includes the provision of the necessary signaling and road safety elements and the environmental restoration of areas affected during the construction work.
