OHL awarded the 13-million-euro construction contract for the new Palma del Río hospital

OHL is set to build the new high-resolution hospital in Palma del Río (Cordoba), Spain. The 13-million-euro project has been awarded by the Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS – Andalusian Health Service). The hospital will provide medical and emergency care to more than 37,000 local residents.
The facility will be built on a 30,000-square-meter lot with a surface area of 9,476 m2 distributed on two floors to accommodate specialties in the field of internal medicine. The Palma del Río hospital will have 18 physician’s offices for specialized medical consultation, five rooms for emergency care, 20 rooms for hospitalization, eight places for observation, eight for major outpatient surgery and two operating rooms, as well as 368 parking spaces and a helipad. With respect to the exterior design, the building will have ventilated façades and curtain walls, together with a flat roof that will serve to support the solar panels for producing sanitary hot water.
The services to be provided by this new facility will include 40,700 medical visits to specialists, 40,000 emergency cases and 1,600 surgical interventions yearly.

OHL has outstanding experience in the development of hospital infrastructures, a field in which it has performed more than 150 new construction projects involving a total built-up area of more than 6,000,000 m2 and a capacity for more than 60,000 beds in a range of countries such as Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Panama, Iraq, Costa Rica, North America, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela or Chile.
At the present time, the company is building new hospitals in Alcañiz (Teruel), Toledo and Cuenca, in Spain; the new Curicó Hospital, in Chile, to replace the facility destroyed by the earthquake that devastated the country in 2010; and a forensic hospital center for mentally ill patients in Portrane, north of Dublin (Ireland).
