OHL has been awarded the expansion and remodeling of marine terminal 6 in Palma de Mallorca for a total amount of 12 million euros. The project, to be performed through a joint venture led by OHL (70%) with Vopsa (30%), has been granted by the Balearic Islands Port Authority, Autoritat Portuaria de Balears. OHL will build a new marine station to meet the growing demand by large cruise ships and the need to increase the city’s port to accommodate these vessels.
The new building will be located on the west dock of the port of Palma de Mallorca and will have a built-up surface of 10,000 m2 and more than 3,600 m2 of covered outside surface areas. From the functional point of view, the building will be organized on a single floor where a large central open space will be created, interrupted only by a curtain wall that will separate the arrivals and departures areas. The ancillary installations and technical areas will be located on the sides. To ensure continuous lighting, plans are for the construction of façades with glass curtain walls and the installation of 19 skylights on the roof.
The project also includes the re-development of the surrounding area, providing a solution to the mobility problems generated by a passenger terminal of this size.
