OHL Concesiones completes a 40 km extension in Network No. 4 by incorporating the Chimbote bypass
July 26, 2016
OHL Concesiones, through Autopista del Norte, the concessionaire company of Network No. 4 of Panamericana Norte, has executed an addenda with the Peruvian Ministry of Transportation & Communications to the Network No. 4 concession contract, entailing an extension of the toll road with the Chimbote bypass project, 40 km long.
The Network No. 4 concession was awarded in December 2008 to split and improve the northern section of the Panamericana toll road between Pativilca and Trujillo, 356 km long. With the new bypass, it will now be 396 km long.
The bypass has been designed to offer an efficient north-south solution to alleviate traffic along the urban areas of the districts of Nuevo Chimbote, Chimbote, Santa, Guadalupito and Campo Nuevo Alto. It is a project that the region has been hopefully waiting for, as it will entail a large change in the quality of life of the town of Chimbote and its plans for growth.
The works will be executed over an 18-month term. The estimated investment is 148 million USD (134.4 million Euros) and the concessionaire will be in charge of its operation and conservation.
Furthermore, a day following the signature of the addenda, the Peruvian President, Ollanta Humala, presided the hand-over and commissioning act of 117 km along the second road surface, sections 1 and 2, Trujillo-Santa and Santa-Casma, respectively. As a result, Network No. 4 already has 277 km in service, along two lanes.
