OHL Concesiones submits the best financial bid for a new toll road in Chile

April 25, 2016

Chile’s Ministry of Public Works has announced the outcome of the retendering process for Camino Nogales-Puchuncaví, in the Region of Valparaíso, for which OHL Concesiones Chile has submitted, as one of the four tendering groups, the best financial bid to extend the infrastructure and improve technical standards and service levels in the existing road.

The new concession, 43 km long, will include works to improve the current 27 km road in both directions as well as construction of another 16 km for the Puchuncaví Bypass and Variante Ventanas, thereby reducing traveling times and increasing road safety.

Camino Nogales-Puchuncaví, originally tendered in 1995, is one of the founding infrastructures of Chile’s concessions system. As a result of growth registered in the region and development of the Ventanas industrial area, consequently increasing traffic amongst heavy vehicles, the road needed to be updated in order to respond to growing traffic demands, to decongest local traffic flow and to guarantee road safety for drivers.

The maximum term of the new concession is 38 years and the estimated investment is 210 million USD (approximately 187 million euros). The most outstanding features of the new works and improvement of the existing infrastructure are:

New works

  • Puchuncaví Bypass, 7 km long, two road surfaces
  • Variante Ventanas, 9 km long, road surface in two directions
  • Three new viaducts in Nogales, Chocalán and Puchuncaví

 Existing infrastructure

  • Splitting of the road surface along most of its route
  • Overhead crossings with lighting and landscaping
  • Access branches, modernization of retaining components and new cattle tracks
  • A bicycle path, six new footbridges and bus stops

OHL Concesiones Chile is a subsidiary of the OHL Group, a large international concessions and construction group, which is currently operating in Chile in three concessions to improve mobility and competitiveness in the road and port sectors. In the Metropolitana and Biobío regions it is executing the Vespucio Oriente Toll Road and Industrial Bridge projects, respectively. In the Region of Valparaíso, it is in charge of operating and extending Terminal 2 in the Port of Valparaíso.
