OHL Group has been awarded with the prestigious 2014 Construction Quality Award by the New South Wales Department of Roads and Maritime Services (Australia) for its excellent performance in the Schofields Road Upgrade Project.

The purpose of the works, developed in joint venture, has been to upgrade a stretch of Schofields Road, between its intersections with Windsor Road at Rouse Hill and Tallawong Road at Schofields in western Sydney. The project, including the replacement of the existing two lane road and creek crossing with a four lane dual carriageway and two new, was developed under live traffic conditions, with minimal disruption to local residents meeting all agreed timeframes and key milestones. Prior to the upgrade, congestion in the area attributed to major delays hindering local traffic and commercial access to industry and freight distribution centres. OHL as the provider of the direction for the planning, construction staging and execution had to solve some key challenges as the identification and relocation of existing services such as electricity, water and gas mains.

OHL opened its first office in Australia in Brisbane (Queensland) in 2011 and it has recently strengthened its presence in this market with the opening of an office in Sydney. In fact, the first contract awarded in Australia enabling the company to close 2011, its centenary year, with the historic milestone of having construction activity in five continents. This milestone was reached when the Department of Transports and Roads of Queensland awarded OHL-JV with the Australian company Golding Pty a contract to reconstruct a flood ravaged section of the Peak Downs Highway between the towns of Moranbah and Mackay.

Furthermore, the OHL-JV has been awarded with a contract in 2014 to construct a section in the Pacific Highway between the towns of Kundabung and Kempsey, in the north of New South Wales.
