OHL Industrial is to construct one of Spain’s major oil product Storage terminals

January 20, 2011

OHL Industrial, through Ecolaire, their engineering subsidiary specialized in Oil and Gas turnkey projects (EPC), has been awarded a contract valued at 130 million Euros for the construction of a terminal for the storage and distribution of hydrocarbons in the Port of Algeciras Bay (Cadiz).

The contract has been awarded by the Dutch company Vopak EMEA, with headquarters in Rotterdam and world leader in the business of hydrocarbon and petrochemical product storage terminals, and the Spanish Vilma Oil, trader of oil products of recognised international prestige. Together the companies have created the company Vopak Terminal Algeciras for the operation of the terminal. The project consists of a storage terminal composed of 22 tanks of different capacities, from 2,000 up to 40,000 m3, totalling a capacity of 403,000 m3 for the storage of fuel oils, diesel fuels and petrols, a volume that places this terminal among the largest ones of its kind in Spain. In addition it includes a pontoon of more than 300 m long for mooring oil tankers, which will be built by SATO, subsidiary of the OHL Group specialized in maritime and port works. It will possess one southern mooring, for ships with up to an 80,000 ton load, and a northern one, for ships carrying up to 225,000 tons. The terminal and the pontoon will be connected by various lines of connection of more than one kilometre long (the distance between the two) running along the Juan Carlos I wharf. The project, with a construction schedule of 24 months, will be built on Isla Verde Exterior’s land, granted to Vopak Terminal Algeciras by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority as a concession.

The terminal operation consists of the import and export of oil products by way of the sea, including the possibility of carrying out the processes of blending and additivation (mixing of oil products and treatment with additives).
