OHL participates in a new road project for more than 45 million euro

OHL has been awarded the construction of the Infrastructure Construction project for section 9b, Bolintxu-Venta Alta Phase I. Sub-section 9b-2. Seberetxe Tunnel, project tendered by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, for an amount exceeding 45 million euro.

The initiative, developed in a Joint Venture and in which OHL participates through its subsidiary Sobrino, is part of the South Metropolitan Bypass, a toll road that circles Bilbao and connects the A-8 (Cantábrico Toll Road) with the AP-68 (Bilbao-Logroño-Zaragoza). This Bypass reduces the intense traffic on the A-8 in the vicinity of the city of Bilbao, while making a faster connection with the plateau.

The Seberetxe tunnel starts in the east abutments of the Bolintxu viaducts. It is a twin-tube tunnel with three lanes in the direction of Cantabria and a total mine tunnel length of 524.8 meters; and two lanes in Álava direction with a length of 531.1 meters. In addition, there are 15 meters of false tunnel on the Bolintxu side and 54 meters on the Seberetxe side. Its excavation is planned by conventional methods -mechanical excavation or blasting in rocky terrain-.
