OHL participates in Forética’s Climatic Change Cluster

March 29, 2016

The OHL Group has participated in Forética’s Climatic Change Cluster created further to the Paris Agreement, to which it belongs along with another 50 Spanish companies. The aim of this business event, arranged by Forética, is to transfer to the business world leading trends in climatic change and to establish a dialog between enterprises, Public Administrations and opinion leaders in the matter. The meeting was held last 28 March and Sonia Moreno attended on behalf of the OHL Group, Head of the Corporate Quality and Environmental Service.

During the meeting, the Cluster targets for 2017 were presented: to inform on the latest trends in climatic change and their impact on cities, and to participate in dialog related to the future Climatic Change Act, as well as incentivizing debate and an exchange of good practices. Furthermore, the 2016 results were presented, focusing on the dissemination of carbon pricing methodologies as a business management tool, amongst other issues.

During her speech, Sonia Moreno highlighted the importance of RDI as a tool to promote city sustainability. She referred to some sustainable construction projects that are currently being launched by the company, such as RECINSITU- aimed at recycling powerful on-site services for aged bituminous paving- and EQUINOX, developing a surface treatment for asphalt paving, in order to reduce catalyzing nitrogen oxide into the air in urban areas. Furthermore, she pointed out that the Group is applying best sustainability practices for unique buildings in its construction projects, such as those verified with LEED certifications (the Group holds 1 Platinum, 13 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 LEED Standard).

OHL’s commitment to fight against climatic change began 10 years ago. Since then, the Group has backed up various national and international initiatives, such as “Caring for Climate”, the Nazca platform and the “Neutral Climate Now” initiative, all arranged by the UN; it has also launched various plans aimed at reducing carbon emissions and holds the triple seal (Calculation+Reduction+Setoff) granted by the Spanish Office for Climatic Change. Furthermore, OHL holds the top position internationally, as the Group is present in the A Lists of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the “Climate Change Program” and “Supplier Climate”
