OHL participates in works to extend the Punta Langosteira harbor wall, in A Coruña
November 26, 2014
On Wednesday, 26 November, the first stone was laid in the extension works carried out on the Punta Langosteira harbor wall, in A Coruña, in which OHL is participating through its subsidiary Sociedad Anónima de Trabajos y Obras (SATO). The act, presided by the Minister of Public Works, Ana Pastor, and the chairman of the Regional Government of Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, represented the start of a larger extension intended for the existing infrastructure.
The project involves extending the current harbor wall -the construction of which, ended in December 2013, also involved SATO- to a total length of 1.3 kilometers (km). The outer wall of the harbor consists of cubipods, a technological innovation of the OHL Group used to construct the main shelter of sloping dykes, offering more services, using less material and enabling easy replacement over traditional cubic components.
The works also include extending the platform to 12 hectares (ha) which, in addition to the existing area, will total 184 ha.
Moreover, the project will extend the lengthwise wharf with a new section, 300 meters long and 15.5 meters deep. This wharf will be able to host some of the activities that are currently being executed in the Inner Port.
The ceremony to lay the first stone preceded the official presentation of the new port facilities in Punta Langosteira, the construction of which has also involved OHL Group’s participation.
