OHL receives recognition for an accident free year in the construction of the Tranque Talabre (Chile)

OHL, through the consortium that is executing the Tranque Talabre project in Chile, has received the Annual Award in Mining Safety for over 300,000 hours without accidents. This award if given by the National Geology and Mining Service, which belongs wo the Mining Ministry of Chile, through which recognition is provided to the companies that register the lowest accident rates in the mining sector in a year.
The award ceremony was held this past August 23rd in Coquimbo (Chile). In representation of OHL, the award was accepted by Ruth Castillo, head of Prevention, Environment and Quality.
Since the beginning of 2017, OHL is carrying out the expansion project of the Tranque Talabre. This contract constitutes the eighth stage of the construction of this dam for the deposit of tailing, located in the Chilean city of Calama, in the Antofagasta region. The project, with a budget of 145 million euros, was awarded by Codelco Chile, the largest global producer of copper, to the Joint Venture headed by OHL and also composed of the Chilean companies Conpax and Valko.
The contract includes the construction of perimeter walls and other complementary work. Outstanding among the principal actions are the extension of dam walls of loose materials with a total extension of 19 km and a total filling volume of 4.7 million m3; the construction of the tailing line for a total of 20 km with a diameter between 700 and 900 mm; three mobile pumping stations for clear water with a total flow of 690 liters per second and two regulation pools for the recuperated water system of 75,000 m3 each.
